The Certificate Program

The Certificate Program is designed to enhance the effectiveness of lay persons of demonstrated ability by means of a curriculum which integrates their experiences of (lay) ministry with the academic resources of the Seminary.  The Seminary provides professional certification for Deacons, Deaconesses, Trustees and lay leaders.   The following courses are offered for the 2017-18 Schppl Year:

CERTIFIED DEACON AND DEACONESS PROGRAMS
The Deacon and Deaconess Programs offer three (3) levels of study:
  1. The Silver Certification -- This initial 12 week Program is divided into 3 modules of four weeks each.  It provides students information needed to move beyond the traditional duties of the Deacon and Deaconess.
  2. The Gold Certification -- This additional 8 week Program consists of five modules focusing on the need and development of ministry to pastors, and the men, women, children, singles and married members of the body of Christ.
  3. The Platinum Certification -- Upon completion of the Silver and Gold Programs, this 24 week power packed course will surely move deacons and deaconess from ceremony to service.  Completion of the Platinum Program requires the student to develop and present a practicum that meets his or her pastor’s approval.
THE CHURCH TRUSTEE
The Church Trustee is vital to the continued survival of the church.  Therefore, trustees must have a well-rounded view of the church as well as the world of church finance.  Unlike a one day seminar or a week long convention, this 12 week Program will undergird the training of the Trustees.  This course is designed to teach trustees and church administrative personnel the basics of good stewardship for the 21st century.

THE INSTRUCTOR’S SERIES
The Instructor’s Series is designed to equip the student with the various means by which he or she can teach others to carry out ministry in the most challenging environments.   Students who have completed the Platinum Certification and practicum are eligible to enroll in this 16 week intensive series.  The course consists of four modules focused on teaching and seminar facilitation.

Classes will begin Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 8:30 a.m, at Mount Paran Baptist Church, 6413 Old Alexander Ferry Road, Clinton, MD. 20735.

The cost associated with each 12-week certificate training course is $195.00.  There is an additional $60.00 fee for the Deacon and Deaconess Gold and the second module of the Building Women from the Inside Out Courses.  The cost of the Platinum Course is $255.00.

Upon completion of the course of study, each student will be awarded a certificate at the Washington Baptist Theological Seminary Commencement exercise.
