The Certificate Program
The Certificate Program is designed to enhance the effectiveness of lay persons of demonstrated ability by means of a curriculum which integrates their experiences of (lay) ministry with the academic resources of the Seminary. The Seminary provides professional certification for Deacons, Deaconesses, Trustees and lay leaders.
Presently, all classes are held virtually; thus providing opportunities to churches beyond the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia the same opportunity to equip men and women for the work of the ministry.
Classes will begin Saturday, November 5, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. Upon completion of the course of study, each student will be awarded a certificate at the Washington Baptist Theological Seminary Commencement exercise.
The following courses are being offered for the 2022-2023 School Year:
CERTIFIED DEACON AND DEACONESS PROGRAMS
The Deacon and Deaconess Programs offer three (3) levels of study:
- The Silver Certification -- This initial 12 week Program is divided into 3 modules of four weeks each. It provides students information needed to move beyond the traditional duties of the Deacon and Deaconess. (Cost $195.00)
- The Gold Certification -- This additional 8 week Program consists of five modules focusing on the need and development of ministry to pastors, and the men, women, children, singles and married members of the body of Christ. ($60.00)
- The Platinum Certification -- Upon completion of the Silver and Gold Programs, this 24 week power packed course will surely move deacons and deaconess from ceremony to service. Completion of the Platinum Program requires the student to develop and present a practicum that meets his or her pastor’s approval. ($255.00)
THE CHURCH TRUSTEE
The Church Trustee is vital to the continued survival of the church. Therefore, trustees must have a well-rounded view of the church as well as the world of church finance. Unlike a one day seminar or a week long convention, this 12 week Program will undergird the training of the Trustees. This course is designed to teach trustees and church administrative personnel the basics of good stewardship for the 21st century. (Cost $195.00)
